Anyone been a little forgetful lately? I have!
I’ve accomplished some amazing things: challenging, complex, hard things. But somehow, I keep forgetting… my keys!
And it’s not just the keys. For some of us, it’s forgetting our wallets, phones, certain words, events, or even our children’s names. These small, repeated moments made me pause. Could forgetfulness be more than just a busy mind? And how do we navigate it on this journey of becoming whole?
What if it’s a gentle signal from within, a sign that we’ve been so focused on everything else, that we’ve unintentionally started neglecting ourselves?
Forgetfulness and Self-Abandonment: The Process To Becoming
As a highly sensitive person sometimes, it’s not just memory lapses.
It’s a kind of self-abandonment, a quiet internal nudge that says:
“Hey… remember me?”
We often talk about self-care, but I hope by now we understand that true care goes far beyond facials and spa days. Wholeness means taking care of every part of who we are:
- Body
Are we nourishing ourselves and growing physically? Are we getting enough sleep, moving our bodies, and choosing food that fuels us? - Soul
Are we caring for our mental health (mind), emotional health (emotions), memories, will, and desires? Have we forgotten our God-given dreams? - Spirit
Are we feeding our spirit with truth (spiritual growth)? Are we aligned with our values in both personal and professional life?
When you add the responsibilities of marriage, children, work, ministry, or caregiving on top of this—it’s no wonder we forget a few things.
It’s a lot.
The Good News?
We’re not doing this alone.
Jesus gave us a promise:
But the Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counselor, Strengthener, Standby), the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name [in My place, to represent Me and act on My behalf], He will teach you all things. And He will help you remember everything that I have told you. —John 14:26 AMP
The Holy Spirit isn’t just here to help us with spiritual revelations. He helps with the daily, practical parts of life too, from locating our keys to remembering who we are.
He is:
- Our Comforter
- Our Counselor
- Our Advocate
- Our Strengthener
- Our Reminder
- Our Intercessor
- Our Standby
So when our hearts feel heavy or our minds feel scattered, pause and say:
“Holy Spirit, help me.”
And trust that He will.
Watch Your Words and Actions
Once we have asked for help, pay attention to our words, actions, and what or who is coming to us.
Are they building or breaking?
Let your words:
- Build up
- Empower
- Encourage
- Equip
Let’s speak life not only over our circumstances but over our minds, hearts, our homes, and one another.
“And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”—Ephesians 4:30–32
A Note to My Single Sisters: Seek Wholeness
To the women praying and hoping for marriage, it is a God-given dream, but remember this:
Before you ask for a partner, ask for the Holy Spirit.
Before you pursue the relationship, pursue the One who makes you whole.
Another person can’t complete you only God can. When you’re led by the Holy Spirit, your desires and decisions align with His best for you.
And if you’re single and content not to marry, abide in the Word. Let the Spirit lead you into all truth. Then you will know the truth and the truth will set you free. John 8:31-32.
Keep Growing, Keep Seeking: Becoming Whole
Yes, life gets busy. And sometimes, we forget our keys… or our peace… or even our dreams.
But we have a Helper—One who teaches, strengthens, reminds, and renews.
So today, take a deep breath.
Ask for help.
And keep growing.
With grace and growth,
Sanchia and team
