Called Higher: A Father’s Journey

What Do You Want, Lord?

My children ask for what they want boldly. Sometimes it sounds more like a demand than a request. They don’t stop to wonder if I have what they need, they simply trust I do.

And while that’s appropriate for a child, what about us, as adults in the faith? Are we still making demands, without considering what God might want from us in return?

“He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”
Micah 6:8

God wants something deeper than our lists. He wants our obedience, our maturity, our trust.

When God Feels Silent

I know what it’s like to ask God for something and feel silence in return.

Growing up without an earthly father, I believed God was my Father—because He said He is a Father to the fatherless. And He proved it. Whenever I had a dream, I held on to it, and in time, He fulfilled it. Every single one.

Except when He didn’t.

When I started job hunting in the U.S., I was met with silence. Rejections. Ghosting. Closed doors. That was new. I was used to favor showing up early.

Therefore, what was this?

It led me to ask a new question—not “Why haven’t You given this to me?”
But:
“What do You want from me, Lord?”

To love one another

So, Then What About the Men?

We talk a lot about the challenges women face, and rightly so. But what about the men?

What about the fathers who had to become what they’d never seen?
What about the men who tried to please, who supported everyone, just to be noticed?
What about the men who rose to the challenge—even when fatherhood was handed to them suddenly or unexpectedly?

We see you.
We honor you.
And we’re proud of you.

A Father’s Test

The real test of a man isn’t how he plans for success—it’s how he responds to the unplanned.

Maybe you didn’t grow up with a father.
Maybe your example was broken.
Maybe no one ever said, “I’m proud of you.”

But here you are…showing up.
Protecting. Providing. Pressing through.

“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds,
because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.”
James 1:2-3

That test wasn’t meant to destroy you, it was meant to develop you. Although it doesn’t feel like it, you my friend are passing.

Choose Growth Over Bitterness

Yes, we’ve been wronged.
Yes, people failed us.
But we won’t allow bitterness to grow where forgiveness should bloom.

Blame, malice, anger, rage, speaking evil towards ourselves or of others, these are seeds of destruction.
Instead, we sow kindness, forgiveness, compassion especially toward ourselves and our families.

Higher is calling.
God is growing you into the man, the father, the leader you were created to be.

Happy Father’s Day

To the fathers who have stepped up, even when it was hard
To the men who are healing while leading
To the ones who’ve chosen to break generational curses

We see you, we honor you, we thank you.

You are not alone.

Happy Father’s Day.

With deep respect and love,
Sanchia and team.
